Retiring Emerald paramedic Mike Burgess has been thanked for 23 years of service to the community. Mr Burgess was farewelled at the Emerald and District Ambulance Auxiliary’s annual general meeting last month. He became a paramedic in 1972 while living in the United Kingdom, migrated to Australia in 1980 for a job with the Northern Territory Ambulance Service, and moved to Victoria in 1989 for a position with the then-Metropolitan Ambulance Service. Mr Burgess said the people he worked with helped make the branch what it was today. Group manager Andrew Watson said Mr Burgess would be missed in the Ambulance Victoria community.
