SCREAMING Reece Mastin fans were sent into pandemonium at the Singleton Bunnings Warehouse grand opening on Friday night.
The X-Factor winner performed a half hour set of original songs and covers acoustically with his band, to a crowd of more than 1500 people, many of whom had arrived early to get prime positions.
In the front row were Mastin’s legion of teenage fans who travelled from as far as Sydney to glimpse the star.
This was Mastin’s first visit to Singleton and, before the performance, he said he was excited to see so many fans in the relatively small venue.
“There are a lot of people, but I’ll still be able to see more faces and their reactions to the music, than I normally do,” Mastin said.
If he could speak to all his fans the singer said he’d thank them for coming and tell them all about his new album, which was set to be released in a month’s time.
Mastin said he was happy with how his music career was going after winning the X-Factor.
“There’s an expectation behind these shows that you’ll make a hit and then disappear. To succeed you have to stay relevant, singers like Adele and Matt Corby didn’t conform to the mainstream mould but are still succeeding,” he said.
When it comes to influences Mastin said that he enjoyed older artists who could play an instrument and sing.
“Anything with a guitar in it I like,” he said.
Mastin said that right now he was enjoying music by the Young Romantics, the Sparrows and the Grizewalds.
Reece Mastin enjoys every moment performing in Singleton.
