NOMINATIONS for the Mulgoa 2012 Community Building Partnerships Program are now open.
The state program provides grants to councils and community groups for projects that build and improve community facilities.
It allows for community infrastructure to be built, refurbished or enhanced to make a difference to the day-to-day lives of local communities.
St Pauls Lutheran Kindergarten at St Marys was a successful applicant last year and received $22,375 to replace the roof.
The building has been used as a kindergarten for almost 40 years.
‘‘We are a not-for-profit organisation, so without this kind of support, there is no way we could maintain such an old building,’’ kindergarten director Suzy Papadionisiou said.
About $200,000 is available for projects in the Mulgoa electorate.
‘‘The benefits of this program are best shown by visiting places like St Paul’s Lutheran Kindergarten, a community childcare facility that has no other way to renovate their facility,’’ Mulgoa MP Tanya Davies said.
“In many cases the funds will go to much needed social infrastructure with sporting, youth, cultural and community clubs all benefiting from project funding.’’
In the three years of the program, more than 4375 grants have been offered.
Applications for the Community Building Partnership close on October 30.
