Still loving the limelight

May 20, 2018 by admin

THE Delltones (pictured) will perform in Bargo for the first time next month.

The four-part harmony band, which first hit the charts in 1958, will perform at Bargo Sports Club on Saturday, September 8 at 8pm.

“We’ve never been to Bargo before, so it’s a big first for us and it’ll be quite a night,” bass singer Ian “Peewee” Wilson told the Advertiser.

“The group, of course, has been around for a long, long time — over half a century — so you’re going to hear a lot of music that goes with The Delltones history.”

The first half of the show will include songs from The Delltones’ early years like Get a Little Dirt on Your Hands and Come a Little Bit Closer with the second half of the show moving to songs from their revival in the 1980s, such as Get a Job and Papa Oom Mow Mow.

Wilson said no matter how tough touring could be, he still enjoyed performing.

“We always leave the stage on a high,” he said.

“What is quite special about The Delltones music . . . is the uniqueness of this music.

“It’s quite fun to perform.

“This is truly a performance band and the music is so much fun to do.”

Wilson said the industry had changed a lot since The Delltones first emerged on the Australian music scene, but those interested in a career in music still needed determination and a bit of luck.

“Concentrate on the music, don’t concentrate on the results, work hard at it,” he said.

“And writing your own songs is so very, very important these days.”

Bargo Sports Club manager Lloyd Pollard said the show was set to be a great night.

“Get in as soon as you can to get tickets,” he said.

¦ Tickets are $38 and doors will open at 7.30pm. Details: 4684 1222.
