All rounder: Jared Flanagan prepares for another busy month in September. Picture: Jonathan NgMount Hunter sports nut Jared Flanagan is gearing up for the NSW Softball Championships on September 8, before competing in a state soccer tournament, the Football NSW Centenary Cup, on September 15.
Jared separates his time between club hockey, soccer and softball, as well as playing for Camden South Public School in cricket, Australian football, soccer, hockey and softball.
Training every night has meant Jared, 12, juggles his time between various sports and school work.
Jared was vice-captain of the NSW team that finished third at the national hockey titles in Adelaide and will soon head to the softball state championships on the Central Coast representing Sydney South West.
Jared plays for the softball team Narellan Wanderers, soccer for Macarthur Rams and hockey with Wests, regularly being selected in various state squads.
Jared’s father Terry Flanagan is proud of his son’s achievements.
“He trains every night and sometimes has two sports on in the one night but he manages to get around,” Terry said.
“We hope to give him an opportunity pursuing a career in something he loves, whether that be playing or coaching in the future.
“Hockey is his main sport.”
Terry praised the support his son receives from Camden South Public School.
“He absolutely loves it all, he’s a bundle of energy and manages to jump from one sport to another without any problems,” Terry said.
“All of his coaches have told me that he’s very coachable.
“He listens to everything they say and he’s very confident in himself.”
Jared said hockey was his favourite sport.
“I love playing hockey and my favourite player is Jamie Dwyer, I stayed up during the Olympics to watch Australia play,” Jared said.
