The Fertility Society of Australia reports that one in six Australian couples experience fertility problems.
These problems can place a lot of stress on individuals and couples when trying to have a baby.
But one of Sydney’s first multi-disciplinary medical clinics, Anaria, in the Sutherland Shire, is helping change that by offering comprehensive services in pregnancy, women’s health and fertility.
Leading obstetrician, gynaecologist and fertility specialist Andrew Zuschmann, of Demeter Fertility, said the new Anaria clinic was world-class.
“Convenience is paramount for Shire residents requiring complex medical services like IVF,” he said.
“As a local, I’m delighted to be involved with the shire’s first locally-based fertility service.”
Dr Zuschmann said Anaria offered not just high quality medical care, but a range of important support services, including parent education, fertility and sexual health psychology and exercise physiology.
Psychologist and Anaria team member Ian Trevallion said speaking to a professional about the problems of becoming pregnant could minimise the stress.
“Having an open discussion with a professional who understands the journey can certainly help smooth the road,” he said.
Dr Zuschmann said it was important to assist families in the area from conception to birth.
“There is nothing more rewarding that helping to bring another person into the world,” he said.
Anaria offers consultations, education, counselling, monitoring and embryo transfers.
It is at 331 Port Hacking Road, Miranda (in the hospital precinct) and egg collection is available at Kareena Private Hospital.
