TOP Australian soccer player Leena Khamis is sidelined for one year after suffering a major knee injury but she intends to return to the playing arena and resume her career.
The West Hoxton woman had surgery yesterday (Tuesday), in Adelaide, after rupturing a ligament in her left knee.
While it’s a blow to her career, Khamis, pictured (right) said the setback won’t beat her positive mindset. “I am out for probably 12 months,” Khamis said. “It wasn’t a good week for me, as I injured my knee, then I got told I needed surgery, but I will get through this, I am determined to do so, I am remaining positive.” Khamis, 26, was preparing for the Football Federation Australia W-League with Sydney FC. The season starts in October.
She has played with the Sydney FC for the past four years making two grand finals and winning a premiership with them in 2009. Khamis has scored 23 goals in 35 games with the club.
She suffered her knee injury while playing for Macarthur Rams.
The international recently returned earlier this year from a successful stint with Danish club Fortuna Hj?rrin. Khamis said she enjoyed the Danish stint.
