AUSTRALIAN tennis has a new star on the horizon with the emergence of Castle Hill schoolgirl Ana Prso.

The 10-year-old prodigy grabbed the number one ranking for her age group last month after winning the NSW Head Junior Round Robin in Sydney.

Ana was drawn in group one of the tournament and dominated her pool rivals with convincing wins over Natalie Ghneim (7-1), Chloe Katerdjian (7-1), Aya Mizukami (5-3) and Simone Britto (8-0).

The four wins ensured Ana finished top of her group to set up a quarter final clash with Allysa Whitby.

In the first knockout round Ana triumphed 6-5 (6) in a tie-breaker and then went on to beat Teodora Jovic (6-1) in the semi-final and Gaby Sidney Journee (6-2) in the final.

“I worked so hard for this win and it feels amazing to be ranked number one in Australia,” Ana said.

“I’m really excited and proud of myself for winning because it was such a long day of competition.”

Ana’s iPlay Tennis Academy coach Stevan Arsic said her recent success was down to months of hard work.

“It’s all her, she’s worked really hard for this and trains up to six times a week,” Arsic said.

“I think she’s very dedicated and has all the necessary attributes to go on and play in the professional ranks.”

Next month Ana will compete in two tournaments at the under 10s State Teams Championships invitational and the new super 10s competition in the Hunter Valley.
