Mayoral aspirations: Council candidate June Young.1. HAVING served on many Liverpool Council committees and planning sessions and on an international board in Washington DC, I believe I have the experience and knowledge to help plan and guide the future of Liverpool.
I will provide my business experience from running businesses for more than 23 years in Liverpool and Seven Hills, my expertise in problem-solving gained as South Pacific area director of Quota International and my legal knowledge gained as a member of the NSW Justices Association and a Justice of the Peace for 34 years to make reasonable and commonsense solutions to all matters.
2. To establish a tourist centre in Liverpool on the Collingwood/museum site and to make the whole area a Heritage Park. To see an entertainment/sports complex built at 1 Hoxton Park Road, similar to those in other areas, and to provide education (with the possible planning for a university campus in the new release areas), for the youth of Liverpool and to create work opportunities in Liverpool.
3. Parking in Liverpool needs to be improved with at least one more high-rise car park. Quarter hour drop-off zones at the hospital and medical facilities need to be provided. If the hospital has built a 800-space car park for staff, something similar needs to be provided for patients and visitors. Better bus services to the hospital and medical centres.
4. State government has already committed so many funds to this establishment, and we have seen the attendance rate grow remarkably so there is an obvious need to continue. Liverpool could become a cultural centre with the Powerhouse, entertainment/ sports complex and heritage park, bringing many more people to Liverpool and providing employment to many.
5. The sale of properties no longer used by residents is yet another way of saving money for infrastructure that would normally have to be paid by residents. We need more drop-off rubbish collection points (as in Europe) and more policing of illegal dumping.
