RADIOACTIVE waste could be coming to Kemps Creek, Penrith Labor councillor Prue Car has claimed.
But Mulgoa state Liberal MP and retiring Penrith councillor, Tanya Davies, accused Cr Car of misleading voters in her campaign for re-election to the council.
Cr Car cited Finance Minister Greg Pearce’s answer to a question in State Parliament this month on the disposal of radioactive waste from Hunters Hill.
“The soil removed from these residential properties is expected to comply with the restricted solid waste classification,” Mr Pearce said.
Cr Car said Kemps Creek was the only site licensed to take restricted solid waste.
“The minister said it would not be going to Lidcombe, therefore it’s going to Kemps Creek. This is a broken promise of epic proportions.”
She cited Mrs Davies’s words from 2010 when, as a candidate she said: “The people of western Sydney are not the dumping ground of Sydney.”
Mrs Davies said it was not high-level radioactive waste.
