Concerned: Joan Cassidy says she was well looked after in Nepean Hospital, but disturbed by the dirty state of the new ward.CLEANLINESS in Nepean Hospital’s new East Block Ward was poor, according to Penrith age pensioner Joan Cassidy.
Mrs Cassidy, 89, was treated in Nepean Hospital overnight on May 10.
She said the staff’s treatment was excellent and she had no complaints about that.
“But to my dismay the place [East Block Ward] was very dirty,” Mrs Cassidy said.
“You dare not go barefoot in the toilet or shower and the public toilets were a disgrace.
“Our granddaughter had to take her baby to them and said she had never been in public toilets as filthy as these were.”
She said patients’ areas in the wards were not properly cleaned either.
“Cleaners ran up and down the centre of the ward with a mop,” she said.
“Vacated beds were simply sprayed and given the quickest wipe down you would ever see before being remade.”
She said this contrasted with the block’s spotless condition when she toured it last February.
“The state of Nepean Hospital is not the fault of the staff, who all do their very best,” Mrs Cassidy said.
“It seems to be cost cutting in the worst possible way.”
