Penrith City Council traineeships will be increased by 100% is the commitment being made by the liberal thinking independent teams lead by Ross Fowler, Tricia Hitchen and Bernard Bratusa.
“We are a regional city, rich in talent and opportunity, and the young people of Penrith and St Marys should be provided with every chance to earn and learn close to home,” Bernard Bratusa said.
“Traineeships are an ideal stepping stone for young people to gain valuable work experience, potentially start a career and get paid.
“We are committed to creating real job opportunities for the young people of our city and Penrith Council is a great place to start,” Bernard Bratusa added.
Tricia Hitchen, candidate for East Ward, said the value of working close to home, especially for a school leaver, should not be underestimated.
“Many young people just out of school are forced to travel long distances either by public transport or car to get to work which tests their bank balance.
“This initiative of doubling Penrith City Council traineeships is aimed at helping young people get the right start to their working life.”
North Ward Liberal Councillor Ross Fowler underlined the message.
“I would like to think many other local businesses in Penrith and St Marys would follow our lead and offer more traineeships.
“There are numerous benefits in having locals working local, and it creates a positive social and economic environment.
“If a liberal thinking Council is elected one of our first agenda items will be to increase Council traineeship programs by 100%,” Ross Fowler enthused.
