North West Rail stink – ‘better to take the bus’

April 28, 2018 by admin

The North West Rail Link is a ”dud deal”, says opposition transport spokeswoman Penny Sharpe.

She said the state government’s decision to cut costs and run the link as a shuttle service will mean it will be faster for local commuters to catch the bus to and from the city.

She quoted transport expert David Hensher who told Channel Nine News: ‘‘We’ve done some calculations from just about everywhere where someone would begin the trip to the city and except for the Cherrybrook people there would be a significant saving in time by sticking with the bus.’’

Earlier in the year the state government announced the rail link would be a single-deck service and as such passengers would change trains at Chatswood to continue into the city until a second harbour crossing is built.

The government said metropolitan trains can carry more people per hour than double-decker trains and were faster because it taok less time for passengers to get on and off the three-door carriages and the trains could get up to speed quicker after each stop.
