Green Valley resident and former policeman, Dr Michael Kennedy, is one such hero. He gave almost 20 years of his life to the NSW Police Force, now working as the head of bachelor of policing program at the University of Western Sydney, Mr Kennedy still says joining the force was the best thing he ever did.

He started his policing career as an undercover intelligence officer within the organised crime unit, and after becoming a detective, he dedicated his time to bringing “gang-bangers” and drug mules to justice.

Far from the romanticised TV version, Mr Kennedy said it was pretty easy work, as long as he remained focused.

“Back then (1978-1997) it was mostly gang and drug-related crime,” he said.

Green Valley and Liverpool Police stations will host a combined Retired Police Day on Thursday, September 6, as part of the NSW Police Force 150 anniversary celebrations. Retired officers from the Liverpool LGA who are interested in attending should contact Inspector Edmund Walsh to reserve a place and determine eligibility. Details: RSVP by noon, August 31, email [email protected]
